Bat Tower built by Richter Clyde Perky in 1929 on Sugarloaf Key, Florida. Mr. Perky assumed that if he put bats in the tower, they would take up residence and eat mosquitos; however, when released, the bats left and never returned. The project was a complete failure. Today, May 28, 2012, the tower still stands and is sometimes used by osprey as seen by the nest on the top of the tower.
